Transforming a messy room into a fresh start
When decluttering a house or a room, where do you start?
I recently faced a room that had been neglected and had been used as storage for some time. It was time to take it back, and breathe new life into it.
It was overwhelmed with furniture, making the space feel cramped and chaotic. To make things worse, mould had started to take over the walls by the window, starting with the curtains.
The room needed a full overhaul, to make sure it could be used again. The client and I made a plan together, and agreed on next steps.
Time to get started, and get all of it done over the course of two days.

The room when we started
Making space, slowly but surely
The first step was clearing out the room of the large pieces of furniture that needed to go, which was most of it.
Much of these pieces of furniture had been repaired multiple times, and some were held together by tape. I carefully dismantled the ones that needed to go, which included two black storage cases, the wardrobe, and the large desk.
The next step was to disposed off as much as possible with the rest of the rubbish. All the small pieces were bagged and taken away. The larger pieces were kept aside for later removal.
Once the furniture was gone, I took care of the curtains which needed to be removed as they had been stained and damp with mould.
With everything out of the way, to give the place a good clean. I scrubbed down all the surfaces, dust the place, and made sure the room was ready for the last step.

Valuable tech has been dismantled

Black shelves were the first one to be dismantled

Spaaaaaaaaaaace! One corner free already 🙂

Next one up was the large white wardrobe

Once the desk was out, the room felt so much bigger

The mould took over the curtains…

… so they both needed to go.
Last couple of steps!
The last step was getting it ready for de-moulding and painting. I have used plastic sheets to cover and protect all the remaining furniture, and made sure everything was prepped and ready for the specialists to handle the de-moulding process. The de-moulding company was scheduled to come the day after, and the painter scheduled soon after (I personally use My Builder to find tradesmen and contractors).
The space soon to be ready for a fresh start!
As a bonus, I managed to salvage a platform from the bottom of the white wardrobe, which had wheels, to help me moving around more easily the larger boxes.

So much brighter already! Ready for painter and professional cleaner

MWHAHAHA! I made a wheelie platform for myself with the white wardrobe’s base.
