Thoughts: The toiletries travel-bag

Toiletries the easy way

Every time I’m about to finish a wrinkle cream, a hair conditioner, or a hand moisturiser, I swear it stops being effective. The wrinkle cream suddenly doesn’t work as well, the conditioner leaves my hair a bit meh, and the moisturiser? Useless. I convince myself it’s because my skin or hair has “got used to it.”

So what do I do? I move on. That new conditioner? Straight into use. The new face serum? Can’t wait. And the nearly-empty ones? They get forgotten. (please tell me I am not alone in this!!)

But I believe they still have value… and they have a place.

Give those leftovers a final holiday

Your travel toiletries bag is the perfect home for all those nearly-finished bottles, tester sachets, and one-off self-care treats. You know, the sample face mask from a gift set, or the hotel shampoo you actually quite liked.

I always keep a pre-packed bag that lives in a drawer (but you can also leave it straight in your suitcase), always ready to go. Every time I pack for a trip, I pick it up, top-up with a little makeup, and I’m set!

Not only does this approach reduce clutter in your bathroom, it makes packing easier, and it adds a touch of indulgence to your trip. That “meh” moisturiser might feel just right after a sun-soaked day, and that single-use sheet mask might be exactly what you want during a quiet hotel night. A little self-care while you are away.

And the best thing? You can finish all of that while away, and no need to pack it on the way back!

In the end, it's all about reduce waste (and treat yourself)

Sometimes we forget that using things up is just as satisfying as buying new. Travel is the perfect time to give those forgotten bits a final hurrah: lighter bag, less waste, and more space at home and away.

Because a little planning (and a nearly-empty conditioner) can go a long way.

Sometimes we forget that using things up is just as satisfying as buying new.

Do you have unused toiletries that are not your style? Maybe it was a gift, or you accidentally buy the wrong thing? Consider donating to The Hygiene Bank at Boots. The Hygiene Bank redistributes the products to schools, charities, local authority services and voluntary organisations to help those in need regain their dignity and confidence.
