Why your home doesn’t need to be perfect, just perfectly yours.
As a professional declutterer and home organiser, I’m often asked if my house is always tidy or if it’s secretly full of stuff behind the scenes.
The truth? My home is sort of tidy… about half the time. And that’s completely fine with me.
Why? Because I don’t believe we’re meant to spend every waking minute tidying. Life is for living, not just for cleaning.
I’d rather focus on what truly matters: creating a home that feels like a sanctuary.

1. Your needs
Your home should give you what you need.
Maybe you come home after a long day and need a cosy space to rest and recharge. Or maybe you work from home and need a creative environment that sparks ideas. Or you are someone who loves a daily yoga flow in the living room, or you’ve always dreamed of a reading nook by the window.
Whatever your lifestyle, your home should support it. When your space is designed around your real life (not just Pinterest-perfect ideals) it becomes a grounding, nurturing place. A sanctuary on Earth.

2. You personality
Your home should also reflect who you are.
We all have tastes and preferences. Maybe you’re drawn to bold colours, or maybe calm neutrals make you feel safe. You might love the feeling of natural textures like wood, wool, linen, or maybe you prefer sleek, modern surfaces.
The point is: you should enjoy every item in your space. From your favourite mug to your sofa to the blanket you snuggle with. Your home should be filled with things you actually like, not just what you’ve inherited or what someone else told you is “cool”.

3. Your soul
And then there’s the deeper layer: what I would call your home’s soul.
This is the stuff that connects you to your memories, your relationships, your roots. A photo of your grandparents. A hand-me-down armchair (or table) you still love. A piece of art a friend gave you. A souvenir from a special trip.
These items may not match what a magazine told you is “cool”, but they matter. They’re part of you. They bring comfort, joy, and meaning. And that’s what turns a house into a sanctuary: not just how it looks, but how it feels.

In the end? Home is where you can exhale, reset, and just be you
I believe our homes should be the one place where we feel most like ourselves. A place where we can exhale, reset, and just be (like when you sit on your couch after work and you go like Ahhhhh).
I don’t believe decluttering is about chasing perfection. It’s about creating a space that supports your needs, reflects your personality, and holds your soul within it.
So yes, I declutter my home. Not because I want it to be perfect, but because I want it to feel like me.
What do you think?

I don’t believe decluttering is about chasing perfection. It’s about creating a space that supports your needs, reflects your personality, and holds your soul within it.
