Salvaging tech (with a focus on recycling)
Decluttering isn’t just about getting rid of things. It’s also about making conscious choices on where items go next.
While working with a client in their spare room, we came across a huge home-built PC that was set aside for disposal. Before throwing it all away, we decided to check if any components were worth reselling or recycling.

Dismantling with purpose (ideally not at random)
Before starting to dismantle, we took a picture and asked CEX what was worth keeping. I carefully removed and dismantled as many parts that CEX indicated as valuable, including the SSD, RAM, graphics card, hard drive, and DVD player. We cleaned and labelled everything, then took it to CEX for evaluation.
In total, we managed to resell most of it for £47 in cash, with an even higher value in store vouchers. A couple of items weren’t tradeable due to failed testing or being too old, so we responsibly recycled them at a nearby phone shop, which accepts electronic waste.

Valuable tech has been dismantled
Recycling pays off (sometimes in cash)
By taking the time to salvage and recycle, we not only decluttered the space but also put some extra cash in my client’s pocket.
It’s always worth checking whether items can be repurposed, sold, or donated before discarding them. Sometimes, there’s hidden value just waiting to be uncovered (or dismantled)!
