Project: Pack, Label, Store, Travel

Getting ready to go travelling and want to store everything away?

Getting ready to go travelling and need to store everything away? My client was preparing for long-term travel and wanted to store their belongings somewhere central, accessible, and secure.

Remember the sturdy, stackable boxes we used for their kitchen project? We put them to good use again! With options like Safestore and Metro Storage available, choosing the right facility very much depends on your location and needs.

Once that was sorted, it was time to pack efficiently.  Want to know how we did it?

These boxes are sturdy, cheap, and stackable. Great for reuse!

All your belongings in boxes, ready for a few months of hibernation

Packing all belongings, so they are trackable and safely stored is not a quick and easy task. To make sure we did the best of both, we split the work in a few steps:

  1. Balanced packing: We packed all of my client’s belonging into boxes, while keeping box weights manageable and mixing heavy and light items (e.g., books at the bottom, DVDs on top).
  2. Labelling: Each box got a post-it note with its contents, and we continued filling until we optimised both space and weight.
  3. Numbering system: We numbered boxes 1 to 20, with fragile ones marked for easy identification. We also used a coded lettering system that only my client and I understood.
  4. Tracking contents: A notebook logged each box’s contents, from 1 to 20, with all the post-its; ready for my client to digitise later for quick searches (who doesn’t love a ctrl+F?).

Smooth storage and easy access

Once packed, we carefully loaded the boxes onto the truck and arranged them systematically in storage, keeping the same order to make retrieval easier.

Now, my client’s belongings are safely tucked away, organised, and easily trackable. Ready to be accessed whenever needed.

All in perfect order!
