Project: Brightening up the spare room

Sometimes you move home. It can be stressful and exciting. And that’s understandable.

But what happens when you move, and don’t have the time to unpack all of your things?

What if you just made do with the essentials and leave the rest?

When your spare room turns into a deposit for everything

The client? A Londoner who moved to a new place and never got around to unpack their belongings.ย

The goal? Making the room more accessible, get some fresh air in, and some light shine through.ย

The time? We had one afternoon to do that! I love a challenge ๐Ÿ™‚

I've always struggled to oranise my living spaces, but it's difficult for me to tolerate people of any kind in my personal living area to do any kind of sorting. Fran was very friendly, patient and non-judgemental, and also gave me some friendly reminders when I was wavering, and she sorted my spare room right out. I would be happy to have her return to assist me with clutter again.

Time to bring light to the spare room

The top priorities were simple:

  1. Sort out the packaging stuff: Remove any packaging that was no longer needed, and recycle it.
  2. Shed some of the clothes: Many of the clothes and accessories in that room were old and needed to be donated.
  3. Stack the boxes better: All the storage boxes in the room had to be kept, but they were stacked in various places.

Few hours later....

After just a few hours we managed to get loads done!

  • Sorted out all of the recycling: special kudos to my client, as they were super proactive and an absolute star at helping me tackling the bigger boxes that were a little trickier to fit in the recycling bag.
  • Packed away all the clothes: all of the donations were now neatly stored in a couple of large bags, to keep them all in one place.
  • Stacked the boxes more efficiently: out of the way and stacked around all the walls, so that we would have some space in the centre of the room and an easier access to the window!

Such a satisfying job, look at that window! Woop!
